2K Games has secured Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the forthcoming third-person roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Mixed Reception
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at the development studio following the departure of previous head the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming unveiling last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive David Ismailer notified employees about this strategic move through an internal memo, which stressed that early feedback sessions had shown the necessity for a distinct game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the developers is now reimagining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
Trend of Key Acquisitions
The news echoes a comparable step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they brought on an industry veteran from the Diablo team to assist with the beloved franchise development group.

Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the recent updates. Previously I shared you all a note, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and talented creators we have had the chance to partner with - and we’re eager for that relationship to persist.”
Through your commitment and versatility, especially over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The gamer responses from last fall’s the game demo was informative. It affirmed the promise of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had refinements needed. It highlighted the need for a sharper vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the input to mind and revamped the title with a revitalized vision - one that’s ready to deliver on its promise to our audience.
The trust in this project increases every day. To further the remarkable progress you’ve made, It is a pleasure to announce Ben Brinkman as the incoming Studio Head of 31st Union. Following several months of conversations, he comes aboard us on next week.
His guidance and experience in the PVP shooter genre is considerable, having spent the past decade and a half producing and managing some of the most well-known titles in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and more recently, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving Ben next week. We are all excited to continue seeing the evolution of the game in the weeks to ahead.

Game Information and Concept
The upcoming game was revealed in last year in conjunction with a community playtest. At the time, the developers described the game as a "free-to-play, 3rd-person action-packed experience and an exciting step forward on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to match your preferred approach," the description states. "Challenge the competition with fresh skills, challenges, and obstacles that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively go big, gamble everything, and pray your squad can secure victory? The choice is in your hands."
The game lacks an official release date or consoles, but enthusiasts can look forward to more updates as production advances.
